Sealey Leak Down Tester VSE2020

The Sealey Leak Down Tester (product code VSE2020) is a Leak Down Tester that falls at the lower end of the price range for these kind of tools. If you dont know what these tools do then I will attempt to explain. Firstly you need an air compressor, (see the Wolf 50L Compressor here) to run the tool. The tool connects to your air line via a 1/4 inch male air connector (not supplied) and feeds air into your cars combustion chamber via a spark plug adapter. On the tool are 2 guages, one sets the air pressure (via an inbuilt regulator) going into the cylinder and the other detects how much the cyclinder is leaking by viewing the drop in pressure compared to the initial guage.

The idea being that the second guage is at 0 (or 100 as its reversed) before you connect it to the cylinder. A small amount of cylinder leakage is expected as it seeps past the piston rings into the sump. A large drop indicates a problem, and the Sealey VSE2020 leak down tester can identify the problem. The user just needs to listen for air escaping via the dipstick tube, the coolant filler bottle/radiator cap, the throttle body or the exhaust pipe. Each area listened for indicates where the problem may lay, for example air rushing into the exhaust indicates worn or burnt exhaust valves.
